Donald Trump is very, very scary
Donald Trump is a maniac . . .
Donald Trump would put us back to where we were before the Civil War
(Snippets from personal conversations on Donald Trump)
I do not like Donald Trump. I do not intend to vote for Donald Trump. I do not think that Donald Trump would be a good president. I do not believe that Donald Trump can solve America’s problems. I don’t believe his economic policies would be effective. I believe his calls for torture “and more” after the Belgium bombings will only make the problem worse.
Beyond not caring for Donald Trump or his candidacy, I have to say that I don’t believe that politics can solve America’s problems. No possible president can untie the Gordian knot we have created with our reckless fiscal policy. No possible president can repair the damage we have done to numerous nations with our reckless foreign policy. No possible president can solve our obesity epidemic. No president could reverse the collapse of the American family or undo the damage caused by divorce, pornography or widespread sexual dysfunction. The problems of our country are too great for human beings and can only be solved if the nation repents and returns to God and asks for his forgiveness and help.
Having said all of that, I have to say that I do not understand the hysteria caused by Donald Trump. From my point of view, there is practically no way that Mr. Trump could be a worse president than what we have had over the last 16 years. Can people simply be ignorant of how badly the United States has been governed over the last 16 years? I moved to Canada because I felt that the U.S. was in an obvious state of irreversible decline. Let us briefly review the Bushbama presidency for those who think that Trump would be much worse than what we have had.
Perhaps you think that Donald Trump is a maniac because he would kill innocents in order to prevent terrorist attacks? Can you be unaware that Bushbama has had a drone attack program which has killed thousands of people in half a dozen countries and kills innocents 90% of the time?
Or perhaps you think that Donald Trump would topple freely elected governments and involve the United States in wars that destabilize regions? Can you be unaware that Bushbama has toppled governments in Ukraine, Libya, Honduras, Afghanistan, Iraq? Can you be unaware that the civil war in Syria between U.S. backed Syrian “moderate Islamic extremists” and Syria’s civil government has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions of migrants who have destabilized Europe? Can you be unaware that U.S. ally Turkey has purchased oil from ISIS and ambushed a Russian fighter bomber killing the pilots and destroying the helicopter sent to rescue them with an American made TOW anti-tank missile? From my perspective, the only way Donald Trump could possibly make things worse on the foreign policy front is by making a bad deal with Iran that ends up funnelling billions of dollars into terrorist groups and allowing nuclear weapons to proliferate in the world’s most unstable region . . .
Or perhaps you think that Donald Trump would usher in a new era of white collar crime where government cooperation with large banks and corporations makes the United States a de facto fascist state? Can you be unaware that the top 20 investment banks have confessed to crimes and paid 200 BILLION dollars worth of fines over the last 8 years and no one has gone to jail? Can you be unaware of the trillion dollars worth of bailout money that went to the banks in the wake of the 2008 crisis with no accountability or transparency? Can you be unaware that former Attorney General Eric Holder did not prosecute bank executives because they were “too big to jail”? Can you be unaware that the Bushbama administration has negotiated and fast-tracked the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement? Can you be unaware that the TPP requires trading partners to have equivalent laws in terms of worker and consumer protection? Can you be unaware that this “least common denominator” approach to regulating trade allows international corporations to sidestep environmental, workplace and consumer protections by getting one participating government to lower its standards and thereby eliminating protections in all the partner nations?
Or perhaps you think that Donald Trump would be a much worse president because he wouldn’t handle the economy very well? Can you be aware that if you count discouraged workers the U.S. unemployment rate is almost 20%? Can you be unaware that Bushbama started with a U.S. debt in 2001 that was about 6 trillion dollars and that the debt now stands at close to 20 trillion dollars? This is almost a trillion dollars a year in printed money that is undermining the dollar and destabilizing the global economy. Can you be unaware that according to economists if the United States were to used Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures the U.S. debt would be reckoned at up to 200 Trillion dollars? From my perspective, the only way Donald Trump could make things worse is to halt the enforcement of immigration laws and throw open the U.S. welfare rolls to anyone who can make it into the United States . . .
I wish I could convince myself that Donald Trump represents a major threat to the United States or the world. I wish I could believe that the United States has been on a good enough course so that we could take a significant turn for the worse. Unfortunately, I believe the United States has been on a collision course with catastrophe for decades and that Donald Trump would deserve to have his face on Mount Rushmore if he could merely reduce the deficit to a few hundred Billion dollars a year, not topple any foreign governments and stave off an economic collapse. If I thought he could do that, I would not only vote for him, I would help him erect a gigantic “Trump” sign on the White House lawn.
